Travel Log posts are my version of a travel diary so I can record what my latest adventures were and anyone interested can follow along live.
For the next two weeks my husband and I will be driving from west to east across the country! The plan is to stop as many national parks and fun attractions along the way. As an added challenge the whole drive will be done in a Tesla, which is great for making the long stretches more pleasant but will also be a fun test of the US electric vehicle charging set-up. I’ll be posting updates as we go and summaries/tips intermittently!
Our first day was 12 full hours of just driving straight through California and Nevada. The only stops we made were for food and to charge the car. The good news was the car did great! We had to stop about every 2.5 hours but this ended up making the drive feel less hard and gave us designated times to eat, use bathrooms, and swap drivers.
The second day we drove from Twin Falls, ID all the way to Grand Tetons (about a 5 hour drive) and this time we had fun stops along the way. Our first stop was an overlook in Twin Falls over the Snake River which was conveniently right at a Tesla Supercharger! This site included a nice visitor center and some great views of the river and bridge across the chasm. Apparently Evel Knievel once tried to jump this but was unsuccessful and came away with minor injuries.

The second stop was Shoshone Falls, which is also known as the “Niagara of the West.” It’s a beautiful stop with an easy overlook to drive right up to. Honestly we were sad after these stops to not have more time in Idaho to check out the nearby Craters of the Moon National Monument and Minidoka internment camp memorial and museum. Something to check out some other time!

Next we drove to the Idaho International Potato Museum! I was psyched for this one – I love potatoes in all their forms. The museum was really informative about the history of potatoes in human civilization, Idaho potatoes in particular, and potato growing processes. It also of course had a little cafe serving fries and baked potatoes which we enjoyed.

Finally we continued on through Jackson and over to Grand Tetons National Park to find our campsite and drive up to enjoy the view from before settling in for the night!
