Travel Log: Cross-Country Road Trip Days 9-10

More long driving days surrounded by flat land and agricultural fields. Before getting into the long drive from Wall, SD to Omaha, NE we decided to stop at the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site including their D-09 missile location.

The missile site was really cool! They provided a phone tour at the D-09 site which was really informative about the Minuteman ICBM program from the Cold War. The missile on display there is now a training missile for recruits to train on maintenance. The visitor center for the site also had a lot of great info about the arms race in the Cold War, the Minuteman program, and the role of the midwest in the nuclear defense program. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the Wall/Badlands area! If you plan ahead I’d recommend trying to make a reservation for the D-01 tour of the missile silo, which we sadly were unable to do.

The only other stop made on the long drive on day 9 was at the Corn Palace, a building with corn attached to the outside to create murals. It was a fun stop to give us a break but really just takes about 5 minutes to see. We did have fun taking some CORN-y pictures though!

Day 10 was a straight day in the car all the way from Omaha to Indiana Sand Dunes National Park where we set up camp for the night. The only major stop of the day was at the World’s Largest Truckstop in Iowa to charge and get lunch.

Travel Log posts are my version of a travel diary so I can record what my latest adventures were and anyone interested can follow along live.
